In the last year alone, 74% of people said they felt so stressed that they had been overwhelmed or unable to cope. Stress is an extremely common issue that is affecting more of us as the pace of the world increases and pressures at work and at home rise.

As Muslims, it's important to remember that we can find peace and tranquility in our religion Islam. One of the best ways to obtain this tranquility and in this case, to relieve stress, is through supplication or dua to God. 

The best dua for stress relief 🤲

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) faced numerous stressful hardships during his time on Earth. From being on the receiving end of gross insults to constant disrespect from hypocrites in Madina, we can learn a lotThe Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself faced immense stress and hardship during his lifetime. This dua was often recited by him when he faced stressful situations.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَ الْحَزَنِ وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ وَالْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ

Transliteration: Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wal-bukhli wal-jubni, wa dala'id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijal.

Translation: "O Allah, I take refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and from being overpowered by men."

Five more duas for finding peace 🗣

1. Dua for patience

رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانصُرْنَا عَلَى القَوْمِ الكَافِرِينَ

Transliteration: Rabbana afrigh 'alayna sabran wa thabbit aqdamana wansurna 'ala al-qawmi al-kafirin.

Translation: "Our Lord, pour upon us patience and make our feet firm and assist us against the disbelieving people."

This dua is in reference to the story of David and Goliath. In this, the supplication was made by David and he was able, by the permission of Allah, to kill Goliath. 

2. Dua for seeking relief

يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ

Transliteration: Ya Hayyu, Ya Qayyum, bi-Rahmatika astagheeth.

Translation: "O Living, O Sustaining, in Your Mercy I seek relief."

In this Jami' at-Tirmidhi hadith graded as Hasan, whenever something would distress the Prophet (pbuh), he would supplicate using the above dua. Here is the best dua to recite if you have depression.

3. Overcoming burden 

لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا

Transliteration: La yukallifullahu nafsan illa wus'aha.

Translation: "Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity."

This verse from the Quran reminds us that with hardship comes ease, and that Allah never tests his Servants with that which he cannot bear.

4. Dua for guidance

إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ

Transliteration: Iyyaka na'budu wa iyyaka nasta'een. Ihdinas-siratal-mustaqeem.

Translation: "You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us on the Straight Path." 

This dua is the foundation of our daily prayer, or Salah, in Surah Al Fatiha. We repeat this everyday and it's a reminder that we worship God and that God alone can help us with whatever we are facing.

5. Trust in Allah

فَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُتَوَكِّلِينَ

Transliteration: Fatawakkal 'ala Allah; inna Allaha yuhibbul-mutawakkileen.

Translation: "So rely upon Allah; indeed, Allah loves those who rely [upon Him]."

This verse from the Quran again reminds us that we should only trust in Allah and that if we do, God will shower us with his Rahma or mercy.
