One of Allah's many miracles and signs of His existence is the granting of new life. This journey of pregnancy through to birth is filled with hope, anticipation and sometimes anxiety.

But are there any duas you can make to help you or your loved one through such this transformative time? The Qur'an and ahadith do guide us as to what you can supplicate to give mother and child the best start to life.

The Best Dua For Pregnancy 👼

إِذْ قَالَتِ امْرَأَتُ عِمْرَانَ رَبِّ إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ لَكَ مَا فِي بَطْنِي مُحَرَّرًا فَتَقَبَّلْ مِنِّي ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

Transliteration: Iz qaala-timra-'atu 'Imraana Rabbi 'innee nazar-tu laka maa fee batnee muharrar-an fata-qab-bal minnee 'innaka Anta as-Samee-'ul-'Aleem.

Translation: "Behold! The wife of 'Imran said: "O my Lord! I do dedicate to You what is in my womb for Your special service, so accept this of me, for You hear and know all things."

This dua is from Surah Al-Imran and was the dua made by the mother of Maryam (AS) when she was pregnant. She dedicated her child to the cause of Allah and as a result showed her devotion to her faith and Lord.

5 more duas to make during pregnancy

1. Dua for protection from harm

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ

Transliteration: A'udhu bi kalimat Allah at-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hammah, wa min kulli 'aynin lammah

Translation: "I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every poisonous reptile, and from every evil eye."

Recorded in Sunan Ibn Majah, it was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said that the Prophet (PBUH) used to say the above dua as he was seeking refuge for his grandchildren, Hasan and Husain.

2. Dua for a righteous child

هُنَالِكَ دَعَا زَكَرِيَّا رَبَّهُ ۖ قَالَ رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِن لَّدُنكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً ۖ إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ الدُّعَاءِ

Transliteration: Hunaalika da'aa Zakariyya Rabbahu, qaala Rabbi hab li min ladunka dhurriyyatan tayyibah, innaka Samee'ud-Duaa

Translation: "There did Zakariya pray to his Lord, saying: 'O Lord! Grant me from You, a good offspring. You are indeed the All-Hearing of prayer."

This dua is from Surah Al-Imran and recounts the story of Prophet Zakariyya (AS) who asks Allah for a good child, someone who would be pious and noble. He affirms that God hears all prayers.

3. Dua for patience

رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِن نَّسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ ۖ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا ۚ أَنتَ مَوْلَانَا فَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ

Transliteration: Rabbana la tu'akhidhna in nasina aw akhta'na. Rabbana wa la tahmil alayna isran kama hamaltahu 'ala alladhina min qablina. Rabbana wa la tuhammilna ma la taqata lana bih. Wa'fu anna, waghfir lana warhamna, anta mawlana fansurna 'ala alqawmi alkafireen

Translation: "Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord, do not burden us as You have burdened those before us. Our Lord, do not impose upon us that which we do not have the strength to bear. Pardon us, forgive us, have mercy on us. You are our protector, so help us against the disbelieving people."

This dua is from Surah Al-Baqarah and marks one of the final verses of the chapter. In this prayer, we ask Allah for forgiveness and protection from any burden. This can help any expectant mother to feel calmer as she has placed her hopes with her Lord.

4. Dua for wellbeing

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ زَوَالِ نِعْمَتِكَ، وَتَحَوُّلِ عَافِيَتِكَ، وَفُجَاءَةِ نِقْمَتِكَ، وَجَمِيعِ سَخَطِكَ

Transliteration: Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matika, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatika, wa fuja'ati niqmatika, wa jami'i sakhatika

Translation: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the declining of Your blessings, the removal of your safety, the sudden onset of Your punishment, and from all that displeases You."

This dua recorded in Mishkat al-Masabih asks for protection from Allah's displeasure and granting wellbeing, including good health, which is particularly of importance for any pregnant woman.

5. Dua for all that is beneficial

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

Transliteration: Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

Translation: "O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is beneficial, a good provision, and deeds that will be accepted."

This final dua asks God for everything that is beneficial and to give us good provision including wealth, which in this case could also mean the baby-to-be.
