If you suffer from headaches, you'll know how debilitating they can be and how much they can interfere with performing simple everyday tasks. Thankfully, by studying the life of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and recorded ahadith, we learn that there are specific supplications or duas for headache in Islam that we can recite to ease these specific pains, whether in the head, body or back.
The best dua for headaches 😩
In Sahih Muslim 2202, it was narrated that Uthman Al-Thaqafi reported that he complained of a specific pain to the Prophet (pbuh). Allah's messenger said that he should place his right hand at the site of the pain and recite the following specific dua:
Transliteration: A'oodhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhaadhiru.
Translation: "I seek refuge in Allah and in His Power from the evil of what I find and of what I guard against."
Four additional duas you can make to cure pain in head 🗣
1. Dua for pain in body and to ease pain
Translation: "O Allah, the Lord of mankind, remove the affliction and send down cure and healing, for no one can cure but You; so that the patient is cured and no ailment remains."
2. Dua for protection
Translation: "In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can cause harm on earth nor in the heavens, and He is The All-Hearing, The All-Knowing."
It is recommended in Fortress of the Muslim (Hisn al-Muslim) to repeat this dua three times in Arabic in the morning and evening when going to sleep. This will inshallah help to give shifa from pain.
3. Dua for overall physical health
Transliteration: Allahumma 'aafinee fee badani, Allahumma 'aafinee fee sam'ee, Allahumma 'aafinee fee basari, La ilaha illa Anta.
Translation: "O Allah, make me healthy in my body. O Allah, preserve for me my hearing. O Allah, preserve for me my sight. There is none worthy of worship but You."
Again, it is recommended in Fortress of the Muslim to recite this dua for good health three times in Arabic.
4. Saying Bismillah
There is a longer version of the first mentioned hadith narrated from Uthman ibn Abi'l-'As that when he complained about pain in his body to the Prophet (pbuh), the Messenger (SAWS) said:
"Put your hand on the part of the body that hurts and say Bismillah (in the name of Allah) three times. And say seven times: "A’udhu Billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhir (I seek refuge in Allah and His power from the evil of what I feel and worry about).”
