As a Muslim we know that good health isn't always promised in life. As with wealth which comes and goes, physical and mental health is a gift from Allah and so it is always prudent to remember Him and seek his help through supplication or dua.

As a reminder, invocation (the meaning of the Arabic word dua) is a way of seeking Godly favour. We make dua for better health so that we can live a more comfortable life. While cupping our hands together, we converse with Allah and repent, give thanks and ask Him for our needs. When done with ultimate sincerity, dua is a form of Ibadah or worship.

The best dua for good health 🩺

Transliteration: Allahumma 'Aafinee fee badani, Allahumma 'Aafinee fee sam'ee, Allahumma 'Aafinee fee basari, La ilaha illa Anta.

Translation: "O Allah, make me healthy in my body. O Allah, preserve for me my hearing. O Allah, preserve for me my sight. There is none worthy of worship but You."

This dua in Fortress of the Muslim (Hisn al-Muslim) asks for good health in three areas - physical health, hearing and sight. In the aforementioned book, it is recommended to recite the dua three times in the morning and evening.

Five more duas for good health 🗣

1. Dua for relief from pain

Translation: "Remove the suffering, O Lord of mankind, and heal it completely. You are the Healer. There is no cure except Your cure. Grant a cure that leaves no disease."

In this hadith recorded by Sahih al-Bukhari, it was narrated by Aisha that the Prophet (pbuh) used to treat some of his wives by putting his right hand on the afflicted area and repeating the above dua.

2. Short dua for good health

Transliteration: Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afiyah.

Translation: "O Allah, I seek your protection and good health."

This is a short but powerful invocation seeking protection from Allah The Almighty and requesting good health too.

3. Dua for protection from harm

Transliteration: Bismillahil-ladhee la yadhurru ma'as-mihi shay'un fil-ardi wala fis-sama'i, wahuwas-samee'ul-'aleem.

Translation: "In the name of Allah, Who with His Name nothing can cause harm in the earth nor in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing."

This dua was recorded again in Sahih al-Bukhari and references Allah's power and might. We seek refuge for anything that could harm us including health issues, or being sick or ill.

4. Dua for general wellness, wealth and health

Transliteration: Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afwa wal-'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah.

Translation: "O Allah, I seek wellness from You in this world and in the Hereafter."

In this hadith, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) taught us to ask for overall wellness, which encompasses good health, stress relief, moral guidance, and protection against harm.

5. Dua for protection from diseases

Transliteration: Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-barasi, wal-junooni, wal-judhaami, wa min sayyi'il-asqaam.

Translation: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from leprosy, madness, elephantiasis, and evil diseases."

This is a more specific dua whereby we ask Allah for protection against diseases like leprosy, and mental illness, and diseases which we may or may not know of.

In summary, we should always remember this verse from the Quran: "And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me..." (Qur'an 2:186). We ask Allah accepts our duas and supplications. Ameen.
