Is Singer Dua Lipa Muslim?

Dua Lipa, born to the same name on August 22nd 1995, is a British popstar, musician, fashion icon and TikTok trendsetter. As well as being the recipient of a plethora of accolodaes including six Brit Awards and three Grammy Awards, she is also the face of multiple fashion brands including MAC Cosmetics and Versace.

Despite her penchant for producing catchy dance music, Dua is also well known to be of Kosovar-Albanian descent, so it therefore begs the question: is Dua Lipa a Muslim? It's time to find out...

Did Dua Lipa grow up in a Muslim family? 🕌

Dua Lipa was born and raised in London, daughter to Kosovo Albanian parents who are first generation immigrants to the UK. They decided to leave Kosovo amidst turbulence and instability and settled in London in West Hampstead.

Dua's father, Dukagjin, is a musician and was part of a Kosovan rock band called Oda. Dua's mother is named Anesa, and the latter's grandmother is originally of Bosniak descent.

Dua's parents are Muslim, as a large percentage of the Albanian population are Sunni Muslim. As a result, Dua and her siblings were raised in a Islamic household, although how often the family practised the religion is unknown.

From an early age, Lipa was exposed to an environment where her family's Muslim identity and Kosovar-Albanian heritage coexisted seamlessly with London's diverse cultural landscape. This multi-cultural upbringing has played an instrumental role in shaping her worldview and influencing her music.

As Dua was raised in a Muslim household, like DJ Khaled and Muslim popstar SZA, it's clear she has a great amount of respect for the faith.

So, is Dua Lipa a Muslim?

Despite being a best-selling international artist, Dua has been quite vocal about discussing her family's European roots and indeed their Muslim background.

On her social media pages, she regularly wishes Muslims around the world Eid Mubarak on Eid al-Fitr. However, she has not discussed her faith in the press and as a result, it is unknown whether Dua is a practising Muslim.

In another reference to Muslim support, Dua recently commended Riz Ahmed on his portrayal of Muslims in the world of film. She said:

"So proud of you Riz for exposing how Muslims are missing and stereotyped in top movies. It’s time for the film industry to change"

In her personal life, Dua was seen together with Anwar Hadid, brother to Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid. Anwar was raised in a multi-faith household and has a Muslim father, Mohamed Hadid, so again it points to Dua's comfort with the faith of Islam.
